I tried sending you a message before, but it did not go all the way through.
I have a beautiful sketch in my living room of "The Hummingbird" given to me as a gift from my friends in British Columbia. It is a reminder of the two years I lived there. I am from Tacoma, so whenever I look at this beautiful piece, I am reminded of where I came from, and I feel so much joy.
I am writing to you to ask if you would consider donating a piece of your work, painting or sculpture, to a fundraiser I am having for my son's medical study. My son, Matt, is 9 years old. He has a disease called Adrenoleukodystrophy, or ALD. We found out his medical study is no longer receiving federal funding, and it is now up to the parents to come up with the funds so our sons receive the treatment they need. The study is called Lorenzo's Oil. There was a movie out about this back in 1992 that was nominated for 2 Academy Awards. If our boys do not take Lorenzo's Oil, the disease could affect the myelin sheath of the brain and spinal cord. It has already affected Matt's adrenal glands, but thanks to the Oil, not his brain.
The fundraiser will be a formal affair, June 1, 2013 at the Eldridge Hotel, Lawrence, Kansas. I would be thrilled to introduce the northwest-style native art to the Central Plains. I think it would be very well-received.
